මුල්ලිවයික්කාල් හි වින්දිතයින් සඳහා යුක්තිය සඳහා වන අරගලය දෙමළ ගැටලුවක් පමණක් නොවේ – එය මානුෂීය ගැටලුවක් බව නිවේදනයක් නිකුත් කරමින් දෙමළ උරුමයක් ඇති එකම බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී Uma Kumaran පවසනවා.
“අද, මුල්ලිවයික්කාල් – දෙමළ ජන සංහාර අනුස්මරණ දිනයේදී, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ යුද්ධයේ අවසන් අදියරවලදී මියගිය දස දහස් ගණනක් දෙමළ ජනතාවගේ මතකයට අපි ගෞරව කරමු යනුවෙන් සදහන් කර ඇති එම නිවේදනය මගින් පෙන්වා දි ඇත්තේ වසර දහසයකට පසුවත්, මෙම ජන සංහාරයට යුක්තිය ඉටු වී නොමැති බවයි.
උපුටා ගැන්ම බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී Uma Kumaran නිවේදනය!
“වසර දහසයකට පසුවත්, මෙම ජන සංහාරයට යුක්තිය ඉටු වී නොමැත. වේදනාව සහ කම්පනය අපගේ සාමූහික මතකයන් තුළ ගැඹුරින් දැනී ඇති අතර ඒවා තුළට කාවැදී ඇත – පවුල් තවමත් යුක්තිය සොයමින් සිටිති, දිවි ගලවා ගත් අය තවමත් පාඩුවේ බර උසුලති, සහ ගෝලීය වශයෙන් අපගේ දෙමළ ඩයස්පෝරාව කිසිදා අමතක නොකරනු ඇත. මැයි 18 වන දින සුව නොවූ තුවාලයක් සහ යුක්තිය සඳහා කෑගැසීමක් අප සැමට වේදනාකාරී මතක් කිරීමකි.”
“දෙමළ උරුමයක් ඇති එකම බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රීවරයා ලෙස, බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය සමාජයට අපගේ ප්‍රජාවගේ දායකත්වය පිළිබඳ ආඩම්බරය පමණක් නොව සත්‍යය, වගවීම සහ මානව හිමිකම් වෙනුවෙන් කතා කිරීමේ වගකීම ද මම මා සමඟ රැගෙන යන්නෙමි. මුල්ලිවයික්කාල් හි වින්දිතයින් සඳහා යුක්තිය සඳහා වන අරගලය දෙමළ ගැටලුවක් පමණක් නොවේ – එය මානුෂීය ගැටලුවකි.”
“අපි දිවි ගලවා ගත් අයගේ හඬට සහාය දිය යුතු අතර ඔවුන්ගේ කතා නිහඬ නොවන බවට සහතික විය යුතුය. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ කල් පවතින සාමය, යුක්තිය සහ සංහිඳියාව සඳහා අප දිගටම කටයුතු කළ යුතුය. යුක්තිය කරා යන මාර්ගය දිගු හා වේදනාකාරී වුවත්, එක්සත් රාජධානියේ සහ ලොව පුරා සිටින අපගේ ප්‍රජාවේ ශක්තිය සහ ඔරොත්තු දීමේ හැකියාව, බලාපොරොත්තුව නොනැසී පවතින බව පෙන්නුම් කරයි. ගත වන සෑම වසරකම, සත්‍යය සඳහා වන ඉල්ලීම වැඩි වැඩියෙන් වර්ධනය වන අතර, වගවීම සඳහා ඇති ඉල්ලුම ශක්තිමත් වේ.”
“බ්‍රිතාන්‍යයේ කම්කරු රජය යුක්තිය ඉටු කිරීම සඳහා සැලකිය යුතු පියවරක් ගෙන තිබේ. මේ වසරේ මාර්තු මාසයේදී, බ්‍රිතාන්‍ය රජය ශ්‍රී ලංකා සිවිල් යුද්ධයේදී මානව හිමිකම් උල්ලංඝනය කිරීම් සහ යුද අපරාධවලට සම්බන්ධ ප්‍රධාන පුද්ගලයින්ට සම්බාධක පැනවීය. සම්බාධක වැදගත් හැරවුම් ලක්ෂ්‍යයක් සනිටුහන් කරයි – යුක්තිය යනු තේරීමක් නොව අවශ්‍යතාවයක් බව තහවුරු කරයි. විදේශ ලේකම්වරයා ප්‍රකාශ කර ඇති පරිදි, අතීත මානව හිමිකම් උල්ලංඝනයන්ට මුහුණ දීම කල් පවතින සාමය සහ සංහිඳියාව පෝෂණය කිරීම සඳහා ඉතා වැදගත් වන අතර, එය දඬුවම් නොලැබීමට ඉඩ නොදෙන බවට ප්‍රබල පණිවිඩයක් යවයි.”
“අපි සැමවිටම අතීතයට ගරු කරන්නෙමු, නමුත් අපි අනාගතය දෙස බලාපොරොත්තුවෙන් බැලිය යුතුය. යුක්තිය පවතින, දිවි ගලවා ගත් අයගේ හඬ ඇසෙන සහ සංහිඳියාව සුවය සඳහා මග පාදන අනාගතයක්. අනාගත පරම්පරාවන් කිසිදා අමතක නොකරන නමුත් ඔවුන්ගේ ඉතිහාසය පිළිගන්නා, ඔවුන්ගේ ගෞරවයට ගරු කරන සහ ඔවුන්ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම් ආරක්ෂා කරන ලෝකයක ජීවත් වන අනාගතයක්.”
“මෙම දිනය සනිටුහන් කරන සැමට – ඔබ තනිවම නොවන බව දැන ගන්න. අපි මතක තබා ගනිමු. අපි ශෝක වෙමු. තවද දුක් විඳි සියල්ලන්ටම යුක්තිය, සාමය සහ වගවීම සඳහා අපි දිගටම සටන් කරන්නෙමු. අපගේ එකමුතුකම, අපගේ නොපසුබට උත්සාහය සහ අපගේ සාමූහික හඬ සහ විඳදරාගැනීමට ඇති කැමැත්ත අපව ඉදිරියට ගෙන යනු ඇත. එක්ව, අහිමි වූවන්ගේ මතකයන්ට ගෞරව කරන සහ එවැනි කුරිරුකම් නැවත කිසිදා සිදු නොවන බව සහතික කරන අනාගතයක් අපට හැඩගස්වා ගත හැකිය.”
“Today, on Mullivaikkal – Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day, we honour the memory of the tens of thousands of Tamils who were killed in the final stages of the war in Sri Lanka.
Sixteen years on, there has been no justice for this genocide. The pain and trauma remain deeply felt and seared into our collective memories – families are still seeking justice, survivors still carry the weight of loss, and our Tamil diaspora globally will never forget. May 18th is a painful reminder for all of us of an unhealed wound and a cry for justice.
As the only British Member of Parliament of Tamil heritage, I carry with me not only the pride of our community’s contributions to British society but also the responsibility to speak up for truth, accountability, and human rights. The struggle for justice for the victims of Mullivaikkal is not just a Tamil issue – it is a humanitarian issue.
We must continue to support the voices of survivors and ensure that their stories are not silenced. We must continue to work towards lasting peace, justice, and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. While the road to justice has been long and painful, the strength and resilience of our community, both here in the UK and around the world, show that hope endures. With every year that passes, the call for truth grows louder, and the demand for accountability strengthens.”
“In Britain the Labour Government has made a significant step towards the pursuit of justice. In March of this year, the British Government imposed sanctions on key individuals implicated in human rights abuses and war crimes during the Sri Lankan civil war. The sanctions mark an important turning point – affirming that justice is not a choice, but a necessity. As the Foreign Secretary has stated, confronting past human rights abuses is crucial to fostering lasting peace and reconciliation, and it sends a strong message that impunity will not be allowed.
We will always honour the past, but we must also look towards the future with hope. A future where justice prevails, where the survivors’ voices are heard, and where reconciliation paves the way for healing. A future where the generations to come will never forget but will also live in a world where their history is acknowledged, their dignity respected, and their rights upheld.
To all those marking this day – know that you are not alone. We remember. We mourn. And we will continue to fight for justice, peace, and accountability for all who have suffered. Our unity, our perseverance, and our collective voice and will to endure will carry us forward. Together, we can shape a future that honours the memories of those lost and ensures that such atrocities are never repeated.”
